This role is for a Software Engineer on the Security team focused on security observability. You will build secure, scalable systems that enhance security observability infrastructure, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and develop, deploy, and maintain software that supports detection, response, and forensic capabilities. The role is open to remote employees; relocation assistance is available to OpenAI offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable software systems that support security observability across infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines that centralize and store security-relevant data from diverse sources.
  • Improve resilience and reliability of data systems to ensure high platform availability.
  • Collaborate closely with Detection & Response (D&R) and other security teams to reduce company security risk.
  • Contribute to data engineering in support of forensic investigations and compliance efforts.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering experience; proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, or similar.
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines, particularly for security-related use cases.
  • Background in infrastructure as code and experience with tools like Terraform and cloud platforms such as Azure.
  • Generalist engineering mindset with flexibility to work across databases, site reliability engineering (SRE), and security domains.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with security and engineering teams to understand evolving data needs and implement scalable solutions.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented approach focused on improving security data visibility and forensic capabilities.

  • Base pay range listed: $325,000 - $405,000 (total compensation also includes equity, potential bonuses, and additional benefits).
