The team is technical in what it builds and operational in how it works, supporting products and research across the company.
Role summary
We are seeking a Software Engineer, Security Observability to build secure, scalable systems that enhance security observability infrastructure. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, deploy, and maintain software solutions that support security and detection capabilities. This role is open to remote employees in the US; relocation assistance is available to OpenAI offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable software systems to enable security observability across infrastructure.
- Build and maintain data pipelines that centralize and store security-relevant data from diverse sources.
- Improve resilience and reliability of data systems to ensure high platform availability.
- Collaborate closely with Detection & Response (D&R) and other security teams to reduce security risk.
- Contribute to data engineering efforts that support forensic investigations and compliance.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Strong software engineering experience; proficiency in languages such as Python, Golang (Go), or similar.
- Experience with infrastructure as code and tools like Terraform.
- Experience working with cloud platforms (example callout: Azure mentioned).
- Experience building and maintaining data pipelines, especially for security-related use cases.
- Generalist engineering mindset with ability to work across databases, SRE, and security domains.
- Ability to collaborate with security and engineering teams to understand evolving data needs and implement scalable solutions.
- Proactive, detail-oriented approach to improving security data visibility and forensic capabilities.
