As a Solution Architect/Staff Engineer, you will lead the technical implementation of major strategic business initiatives. This includes organizing the scope for different squads to manage and supporting them throughout the process.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, planning, and execution of significant strategic technology initiatives, such as transitioning to an event-driven architecture, enhancing application modularity, implementing automation testing, and enabling continuous delivery. Delegate specific responsibilities to squads and provide support throughout the implementation phase.
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex technical problems using various tools and techniques to identify root causes, including documenting handbooks for future reference, and help squads design practical solutions to eliminate them for the long term.
- Support the implementation of automated testing frameworks across the organization to ensure the software is reliable and robust.
- Continuously monitor production systems' performance and behavior, identify problems and risky vulnerabilities, and propose improvement plans.
- Help teams identify and overcome technical debt and issues that reduce productivity.
- Handle frequent context switches to drive and support the most important initiatives at the time in NordLayer.
- Support cross-discipline (for example frontend+backend or backend+apps) engineers to find balanced solutions to given challenges.
- Continuously report and advise the senior leadership team in planning and designing the technology roadmap.
- Provide mentorship for engineers, helping them grow, deal with responsibilities, overcome obstacles, and remove blockers.
- Promote documentation culture. Maintain technical documents, including diagrams and specs, for clear system understanding by all stakeholders.
Requirements
- Be engaged in teamwork and love working with others.
- Demonstrate the flexibility to adjust your focus seamlessly between detailed tasks and broader objectives, effectively "zooming in and out" as needed to meet your job requirements.
- Have deep experience in microservices architecture and distributed systems.
- Understand event-based systems and messaging patterns (and an eagerness to share your knowledge in event-driven architecture).
- Have 5+ years of backend development experience in PHP, C#, or Java.
- Experience with at least one of the following cloud providers: AWS, Azure, GCP.
- Good skills in solving database (relative, kv, document, ts) performance architecture and reliability issues.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Drive to learn, fail, reflect, and apply learnings moving forward.
- Be highly motivated to develop high-quality solutions quickly and without mentorship.
Bonus Points For
- Knowledge of additional architecture patterns: CQRS, event-sourcing, etc.
- Experience with one or more programming languages for implementing Backend systems (Go, PHP, Java/Kotlin/Scala).
- Leading investigations into production incidents, from identifying the root cause and post-mortems.
- Driving initiatives in decoupling monolithic architecture into microservices.
