The Technical Success team is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective deployment of ChatGPT and OpenAI API applications for developers and enterprises. As a Solutions Engineer on the OpenAI for Gov team, you will partner with government agencies, policymakers, public institutions, and government contractors to drive innovation, enhance service delivery, and solve complex challenges using OpenAI products.
This role is based in Washington, DC and follows a hybrid work model (3 days in the office per week). OpenAI offers relocation assistance to new employees.
Responsibilities
- Deliver an exceptional pre-sales customer experience by providing technical expertise, outlining value propositions, and answering product, API, and LLM-related questions.
- Demonstrate how ChatGPT and the OpenAI API can meet customers' business needs — build and present demos, scope use cases, recommend architecture patterns, and provide in-depth technical advisory.
- Create and maintain documentation, guides, and FAQs related to common questions and requirements discovered during pre-sales engagements.
- Gather and relay customer feedback, identify themes across customers, and represent the voice of the customer to internal teams.
- Serve as the first line of defense for security and compliance questions; explain standardized collateral, guide customers to relevant resources (e.g., trust portal), and escalate complex requirements as needed.
- Collaborate closely with Go-to-Market, Policy/Global Affairs, and GRC teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in a technical pre-sales role, managing technical and business relationships with complex organizations.
- Experience working with Federal Civilian and/or State & Local government customers.
- Strong understanding of IT security principles and experience providing higher-level security and compliance support for B2B SaaS products.
- Industry experience with programming languages such as Python or JavaScript and working with REST APIs.
- Experience delivering prototypes of generative AI or traditional ML solutions and familiarity with network/cloud architecture.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, able to translate business and technical topics to varied audiences including senior leaders.
- Ability to own problems end-to-end and a willingness to learn required knowledge to get the job done.
- Collaborative, humble attitude and eagerness to help colleagues succeed.
Note: A security clearance is not required, but candidates with an existing clearance may have additional opportunities.

- Base pay range: $198,000 - $252,000 plus equity and potential performance-related bonuses.
