Team overview

The Users and Contextualization Data & AI team, part of the Users, Listing, & Platform Data organization, builds foundational data and systems to give Airbnb teams a deeper understanding of user domains (Guest & Host). The team focuses on creating high-quality, rich, and well-governed user data and insights to enable personalized and context-aware experiences that improve trip quality on and off the Airbnb platform.

Responsibilities

  • Identify gaps and opportunities with stakeholders and understand their needs.
  • Set the team's roadmap and drive alignment on improving and adopting data quality within the Users domain.
  • Design and develop high-quality data assets for internal product and analytics use cases, and for external partners.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams including backend/client, data science, analytics, and machine learning.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to enhance product usage measurement through improved logging practices.
  • Create robust pipelines, frameworks, tools, and dashboards to efficiently generate insights that meet business, product, and regulatory requirements.
  • Translate ambiguous data requirements into clear, efficient, scalable, and impactful deliverables.
  • Present in-depth product and technical analyses to key stakeholders and influence strategic direction for data-driven decisions.
  • Mentor and review designs and work of engineers on the team, setting a high bar for quality.
  • Develop user data entities to deepen understanding of Guest & Host behavior and improve platform personalization.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Expertise in SQL.
  • Proficiency in at least one data engineering language such as Python or Scala.
  • Expertise creating metrics and evaluating effectiveness of defenses (e.g., rules and ML models using evaluation and experiment data).
  • Experience with Tableau and data visualization tools.
  • Experience with an ETL framework like Airflow.
  • Excellent communication skills with a history of strong collaboration with technical and non-technical partners.
  • Expertise with data warehousing and modeling; hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and columnar databases (Redshift, BigQuery, HBase, ClickHouse).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.

Location & Office Policy

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager. If remote, you must live in a U.S. state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states are excluded). Offices: United States.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay range: $194,000 — $240,000 USD.
  • This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
