Role overview

As an Applied Scientist within the Data Science organization, you will be responsible for building cutting‑edge models to navigate critical tradeoffs and drive business value. You will develop and deploy causal inference models, set measurement standards for product launches, provide technical mentorship, and partner with senior leadership to guide product development.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy robust causal inference models to quantify holistic business impact of new product launches (examples called out: PSM, Double ML).
• Establish standards for measurement for new product and feature launches.
• Provide technical mentorship to other members of the data science organization.
• Act as a thought partner for senior leadership to guide product development and influence business strategy.

Requirements

• PhD or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Economics or Statistics with 8+ years of distinguished industry experience.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, R, or other programming languages used for data analysis and statistical modeling.
• Deep theoretical and applied expertise in a wide range of quasi‑experimental methods.
• Proven track record of influencing business and product strategy through data‑driven causal insights and the ability to translate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Demonstration of Coinbase core cultural values: clear communication, positive energy, continuous learning, and efficient execution.

Nice to Haves

• Experience in the fintech or crypto industries.
• Specific experience working on pricing models, marketing attribution, or customer LTV modeling.
• Familiarity with blockchain data and the unique opportunities and challenges in crypto businesses.

Compensation and logistics

• Pay Range: $207,485 — $275,000 USD (target annual salary). Full‑time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
