Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source company building observability tooling used by millions worldwide. The Databases team owns telemetry databases including Mimir (metrics), Loki (logs), Tempo (traces), and Pyroscope (profiles). These are multi-tenant distributed systems implemented in Go and run on Kubernetes across major cloud providers (GCP, Azure, AWS). The team contributes to open-source projects and delivers these systems as Cloud and on-prem offerings.

This is a remote opportunity; the company is particularly interested in applicants based in Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, or Sweden. The role reports into the Databases team and involves designing, building, operating, and maintaining critical ingestion and storage systems for logs and telemetry.

Responsibilities

  • Influence roadmap and define your own career objectives.
  • Work with your team to deliver new features and iterate based on feedback and metrics.
  • Drive projects end-to-end from ideation to production and customer operations.
  • Contribute to open-source projects beyond your immediate team scope.
  • Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems with ownership for reliability, performance, and availability.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and own the services you run.
  • Mentor and support team members; participate in design discussions and cross-team collaboration.
  • Learn and grow by exploring the codebase of large distributed systems and understanding Grafana Cloud and its customers.

Requirements

  • Solid experience with at least one programming language; Grafana's stack is primarily Go (experience in Python, C, C++, Rust or similar translates well).
  • Experience delivering projects end-to-end: gathering requirements, brainstorming, shipping, and iterating.
  • Some experience developing software that runs in the Cloud or experience in systems engineering.
  • Experience writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively on distributed, remote teams.

Bonus / Nice-to-have

  • Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker.
  • Experience using Grafana and Prometheus (operational usage, on-call experience, or hobby/homelab usage).
  • Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with on-call / operations / SRE tasks and infrastructure-as-code concepts.

Compensation & Rewards

  • In Germany, the base compensation range for this role is EUR 106,000 - EUR 133,000. Actual compensation varies by level, experience, and location.
  • All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
