At Coinbase we build the emerging on-chain platform and the future global financial system. The Data Engineering team develops and maintains robust data pipelines, trusted data sources (data marts), and analytics/data products to empower data scientists and analysts via self-serve analytics. This role focuses specifically on blockchain data and requires building tools and products that improve data science productivity, ensure data reliability, and enable self-serve analytics.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain foundational data layers (data marts) that serve as single sources of truth across the company.
• Design and implement robust data pipelines to ingest blockchain data from APIs, files, and databases into clean, useful formats.
• Design data models that support data science usage of blockchain data.
• Build data transformation tooling and pipelines for large datasets (batch and streaming where applicable).
• Implement data quality measurement and enforcement mechanisms to ensure reliability and completeness of data.
• Apply blockchain knowledge to craft heuristics and models that answer on-chain behavior questions (blocks, transactions, token transfers, contract calls, UTXO/account models, labeling, etc.).
• Build developer tools and automation to improve data science workflows (data transformation, modeling, quality tooling).
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Data Science, Data Platform, Machine Learning, and analytics teams to align priorities and deliverables and enable stakeholders to self-serve analytics.

Requirements

• Deep understanding of blockchain data: blocks, transactions, token transfers, contract calls, account and UTXO models, labeling, and related concepts. Familiarity with tools like Dune and Arkham is expected.
• Strong proficiency in Python (must). Experience with Go is a plus.
• Expert-level SQL skills for querying, transformations, and performance optimization.
• Experience designing, building, and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines for large datasets; experience with both batch and streaming is a plus.
• Experience with pipeline orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow (building, deploying, and optimizing DAGs).
• Familiarity with data compute frameworks (Spark, Flink, Beam) is a plus.
• Understanding of data modeling best practices (star/snowflake schemas, normalization); experience modeling blockchain or financial data is a plus.
• Experience or familiarity with data visualization tools (Superset, Hex, Looker) or Python visualization libraries (Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly).
• Knowledge of data quality tooling and practices; ability to design mechanisms for measurement and enforcement.
• Fundamental DevOps practices: unit testing, CI/CD, git repository management, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Expertise in leveraging LLMs and AI tools in workflows; experience with embeddings and vector search is a plus.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and produce documentation, pipeline designs, and data flow diagrams.

Pay & Benefits

• Pay Range (target annual salary): $207,000 — $244,000 USD. Full-time offers include target bonus + benefits.
