Staff Data Scientist, Marketplace

You will join a team dedicated to driving innovation and optimizing Airbnb's dynamic Marketplace. As a member of the Marketplace Data Science team, you will tackle challenges at the core of our business, including pricing, supply management, and fee strategies. Collaborating with leaders across the company, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our marketplace.

Responsibilities

• Specify and estimate models to determine the impact of supply and demand on marketplace outcomes.
• Build data products, inference frameworks, and intelligence to enable marketplace growth.
• Develop models to accurately forecast key marketplace metrics to enable proactive decision-making and strategic planning.
• Apply advanced causal inference techniques to quantify the impact of changes in supply and demand on the marketplace.
• Deliver data and insights to enable the company’s supply growth efforts (supply acquisition, retention, and success).
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and operations to integrate data science insights into initiatives.
• Engage with stakeholders to understand business objectives and provide tailored, data-driven solutions.
• Provide mentorship to other data scientists and exemplify a high bar for technical excellence.

Requirements

• 9+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative field.
• Strong fluency in Python or R for hands-on individual-contributor work.
• Strong SQL skills for advanced data analysis at scale.
• Experience with causal inference and machine learning techniques, ideally in a multi-sided platform (marketplace) setting.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders and independently when needed.
• Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively to audiences of varying technical levels.

Location & Work Arrangement

• This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base pay range: $194,000—$240,000 USD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
