Staff Frontend Engineer - Grafana Databases, Adaptive Telemetry

Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source company powering observability for millions of users worldwide. The Databases department owns and operates telemetry databases (Mimir for metrics, Loki for logs, Tempo for traces, and Pyroscope for profiles) offered as Cloud services and on-premise enterprise products. The Adaptive Telemetry group builds Adaptive Metrics, Adaptive Logs, Adaptive Traces, and Adaptive Profiles to optimize telemetry storage and value. Each Adaptive Telemetry solution includes a Grafana plugin — TypeScript applications built with React and tested with Jest and Playwright.

This is a remote opportunity for applicants in USA time zones only.

Responsibilities

• Influence roadmap and set career objectives aligned with team goals.
• Work with team members to design, implement, and iterate on new features; deliver MVPs and improve based on feedback.
• Lead and manage projects from ideation through development and delivery.
• Contribute across multiple projects, including work outside your immediate team scope.
• Mentor and support other engineers; participate in design discussions and code reviews.
• Write and review pull requests and design documents; help continuously improve the UI and engineering practices.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively in a largely remote engineering organization.

Requirements

• Solid experience building web applications, ideally using React.
• Strong TypeScript experience (Grafana plugins are TypeScript applications).
• Experience writing and maintaining unit and end-to-end tests using modern testing frameworks (Jest and Playwright are used by the team).
• Experience writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software.
• Leadership experience: guiding and supporting engineers, leading initiatives or small teams, and driving projects to outcome.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in a remote setup.
• Customer focus, pragmatism, and an iterative approach to design and delivery.

Bonus / Nice-to-have

• Experience with TanStack and Playwright.
• Experience developing Grafana plugins.
• Experience with backend languages such as Go.
• Prior use of Grafana or other observability tools (Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, Pyroscope) in production or hobby projects.

Compensation & Rewards

• United States base compensation range: USD 168,256 - USD 201,907 (actual compensation may vary by level, experience, and skillset). Roles include RSUs and may include bonus and additional benefits.
