The Risk AI/ML team builds flexible, scalable, and intelligent systems required to detect and prevent fraud, scams, and account takeovers at scale. As a member of this team you will build and deploy sophisticated AI/ML models that power real-time, near-real-time, and scheduled risk-detection workflows, collaborating closely with Platform, Product, Analyst, and Ops teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end design and deployment of production-grade AI/ML models and systems that scale to millions of users.
• Investigate and harness cutting-edge methodologies (e.g., large-scale deep learning, LLMs, GNNs, reinforcement learning) to address challenges such as fraud detection, recommender systems, feed ranking, and risk assessment.
• Architect low-latency, high-reliability prediction pipelines and production models with an emphasis on robustness and low maintenance.
• Drive execution across ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives; prioritize technical debt and ensure systems evolve with business growth.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, setting technical direction across teams and democratizing access to AI/ML via codelabs, tools, and infrastructure.
• Collaborate and influence stakeholders with diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering and/or AI/ML, including significant experience deploying AI/ML systems into production.
• Deep expertise in applied AI/ML (examples listed below); experience applying ML to risk, fraud detection, and related domains.
• Strong coding skills (e.g., Python) and experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
• Experience building backend systems at scale focused on data processing, AI/ML, or analytics.
• Demonstrated technical leadership: ability to lead complex, cross-team initiatives and deliver impactful AI/ML solutions.
• Strong communication skills and experience mentoring senior engineers and raising engineering excellence.
• Passion for protecting users from bad actors and aligning with Coinbase cultural values.

Pay Range

The target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits.

Pay Range: $217,900—$217,900 CAD
