Airbnb connects its community with the right information, in the right place, at the right time. The Messaging & Notifications team tailors messaging so hosts can streamline operations and travelers get the information they need. The team is also building new connections to enrich hosting and traveling experiences.

You will architect and implement advanced machine learning solutions—including recommendation engines, ranking systems, intent detection models—and lead efforts to harness Large Language Models (LLMs) to create transformative AI experiences. Many initiatives are in early stages; you will shape ideas from inception to production and lead ML, Data and Product engineers to drive ML applications, with a core focus on Messaging and Notification.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement advanced ML systems and services for recommendation, ranking, intent detection, and LLM integration.
• Lead, mentor, and grow software engineers and applied scientists across the organization.
• Envision, champion, and support development of novel ML systems, product integrations, and performance optimizations to solve real-world problems.
• Drive integration of intelligence into existing platforms and productionize ML-powered products.
• Raise AI/ML skillset within the organization and provide coaching and mentoring.

Requirements

• 9+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of experience in a Staff Engineer role with ownership responsibility over large-scale software systems.
• Background in the design and development of scalable AI and ML systems and services.
• Deep passion for building ML-powered products and integrating ML into production systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills; experience owning and fostering engineering maturity across organizations.

Location & Work Policy

• This position is U.S. - Remote Eligible. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states excluded). The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base pay range: $204,000—$255,000 USD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. Actual base pay depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands.
