Responsibilities

• Improve observability, reliability, and availability by defining and measuring key metrics.
• Build automation and improve systems to eliminate toil and operational work.
• Collaborate with core infrastructure teams to optimize cloud deployments using technologies such as Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, and EC2.
• Partner with Coinbase product teams to reduce service disruptions and automate incident response.
• Proactively analyze reliability issues across business units and implement software solutions for significant improvements.
• Educate, mentor, and hold engineering teams accountable to enhance system reliability and embed reliability as a core engineering value.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.
• Debug complex technical problems to improve system functionality, deployment, operation, and diagnosis.
• Review feature designs for cross-cutting projects, ensuring security, scalability, operational integrity, and architectural clarity.
• Build pipelines to integrate with third-party vendors.
• Participate in on-call rotations for timely resolution of urgent issues.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services and service-oriented architectures.
• Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system with global impact.
• Strong system design and coding skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with a bias toward transparent cultural practices.
• Expertise in observability, debugging, and performance tuning.
• Ability to clearly explain technical concepts.
• Strong interpersonal skills across engineer seniority levels.
• Critical thinking skills during high-pressure situations.
• Willingness to delve into any layer of the technology stack.
• Availability for on-call support outside regular business hours.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with high throughput, low latency reliable systems.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools like Kibana, Datadog.
• Experience in fast-growing environments.
• Proficiency in Ruby, Go, Terraform.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure.
• Background in regulated environments.
• Experience producing company-facing blog posts and training materials.
• Crypto-specific experience including working with onchain activities, Ethereum, ENS, dApps, or blockchain services.
