The Android Platform team’s mission is to provide best-in-class experience for Android development at Airbnb to empower engineers to deliver innovative solutions with high velocity and quality at scale. The team’s work spans frameworks and tooling to build systems, CI, testing, and IDE integrations. Recent projects include Trio (an Android framework for Jetpack Compose screen architecture) and Focus Mode (an Android Studio plugin to supercharge IDE & Sync performance).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to identify opportunities for improving developer productivity.
• Drive roadmap projects and deliver high-quality results to further the Android Platform mission.
• Improve existing frameworks and build systems to enable ambitious platform goals.
• Drive projects that increase productivity of the Android community and unlock new capabilities via frameworks and tooling.

Requirements

• 9+ years of industry experience building Android apps using Kotlin.
• Experience building frameworks and build systems (examples given: Gradle, Bazel).
• Deep technical understanding of how dependency injection systems work (example: Dagger).
• Experience building code generation tools (examples: annotation processors, KSP, Kotlin compiler plugins).
• Experience working in medium to large-scale codebases.
• Ability to travel to the San Francisco office for about a week each quarter for gatherings.

Nice to have:

• 2+ years of experience using Jetpack Compose.
• Experience building Android Studio / IntelliJ IDEA plugins.
• Experience using Compose for Desktop.

Location requirements:

• This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager. You must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states are excluded).

Benefits & Compensation

• The role may be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
• Base pay range: $204,000—$255,000 USD (actual base pay depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands; range is subject to change).
