Details

Join Coinbase's Country Expansion team to help shape cryptocurrency adoption across the Americas. You will be the Staff Software Engineer responsible for a group of engineers located in Canada and Brazil, working closely with Country Directors, Product Managers, UX Designers, Customer Support, and cross-functional teams to tailor the Coinbase app for regional customers. This role requires technical leadership, strong execution, and a passion for building reliable, scalable systems and delightful product experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of 7–8 engineers to deliver features specific to AMER markets.
  • Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables using technical expertise.
  • Mentor and train team members on design techniques and coding standards.
  • Deep dive into Coinbase systems to provide solutions for launching and operating regional features.
  • Define and execute a roadmap based on opportunities from your team and stakeholders.
  • Use Coinbase and competitor apps to identify gaps in the experience for your market.
  • Work closely with country managers, product managers, UX designers, customer support, and senior leadership to identify feature opportunities.
  • Raise customer experience problems/gaps and drive solutions.
  • Oversee design of scalable, reliable, and reusable solutions that other teams can benefit from.
  • Show bias for action and use data-driven decisions to experiment with new solutions quickly.
  • Contribute positive energy and inclusive collaboration in meetings and interactions.

Requirements

  • At least 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
  • Execution-focused mindset; capable of navigating ambiguity and delivering results.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi‑tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience delivering full‑stack projects (ownership across front and back ends).
  • Willingness to manage engineers and eventually transition into a manager role.
  • English fluency is required.

Nice to haves

  • Active use or building of crypto products.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, or French (beneficial for key markets in the Americas).
  • Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with on‑chain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services).

Pay Transparency

The target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full-time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (including medical, dental, and vision).

Pay Range: $211,500 — $211,500 CAD

Work location & culture

  • Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company offsites held multiple times annually). Attendance is expected and supported.
  • This role partners closely with local stakeholders in Canada and Brazil and focuses on regional market needs in AMER.
