Staff Software Engineer, Backend - Consumer Product Group

Join Coinbase's Country Expansion team to shape cryptocurrency adoption across the Americas (AMER). You will work with Country Directors, Product Managers, UX Designers, Customer Support, and cross-functional teams to tailor the Coinbase app for customers in Canada, Brazil, and the broader AMER region. You will lead a team of engineers to build high-quality, scalable, multi-tenant distributed systems and customer-facing features that increase adoption and improve regional product-market fit. In-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 7–8 engineers delivering features specific to AMER markets.
• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Mentor and train team members on design techniques and coding standards.
• Deep dive into Coinbase systems to design and deliver launch solutions for regional markets.
• Define and execute a roadmap based on opportunities surfaced by your team and stakeholders.
• Use Coinbase and competitor apps to identify gaps in the experience for your market.
• Work closely with Country Managers, Product Managers, UX Designers, Customer Support, and senior leadership to identify feature opportunities.
• Raise customer experience problems/gaps and drive solutions.
• Oversee design of scalable, reliable, and reusable solutions that other teams can benefit from.
• Drive data-driven experiments and demonstrate bias for action.
• Foster an inclusive, energetic team culture.

Requirements

• At least 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
• Execution-focused mindset, comfortable navigating ambiguity and delivering results.
• Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Delivered full stack projects.
• Willingness to manage engineers and eventually transition into a manager role.
• English fluency is required.

Nice to have

• Active use or building of crypto products.
• Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, or French (useful for Coinbase's key AMER markets).
• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

Pay Transparency Notice

The target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility + equity eligibility + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision).

Pay Range:

$211,500—$211,500 CAD

Location & Work Model

• Team of engineers located in Canada and Brazil (AMER focus). City-level locations are not specified.
• While Coinbase is remote-first, this role requires in-person participation throughout the year for team and company offsites and collaboration.
