Join Coinbase Institutional to build the next generation of financial infrastructure responsible for the secure, reliable movement of funds across fiat, crypto, and internal ledgers. This team processes transactions for institutional customers (Coinbase Prime, Custody, Commerce, Exchange) and manages assets for clients. The role requires technical leadership, architectural ownership, and hands-on implementation for settlement and transfer processes.
Responsibilities
- Architect and develop services and frameworks that power Coinbase Primeβs settlement and transfer processes.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance, working closely with management and stakeholders to define and execute the strategic roadmap.
- Lead individual projects, managing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables using strong technical judgment.
- Mentor and train other engineers on design techniques and coding standards, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
- Write high-quality, well-tested code for fault-tolerant and highly reliable systems at scale.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to transform technical vision into a tangible roadmap.
- Support in-person participation and team/company offsites as required (remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation expected throughout the year).
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Proven experience building fault-tolerant, highly reliable systems at scale.
- Demonstrated experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
- Experience applying these skills to ledgering, trading, or payment systems at scale.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive change at all levels.
- A passion for building an open financial system and belief in the power of crypto and blockchain technology.
Nice to haves
- Experience with Golang and Ruby.
- Familiarity with on-chain activity, such as interacting with Ethereum addresses and dApps.
- Experience with financial systems, banking, or fintech.
- Knowledge of concepts like T+1 or T+2 settlement cycles, and the roles of clearing houses and settlement agents.
- Experience growing with a company through rapid engineering scale-up (e.g., from 10 to hundreds of engineers).
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $211,650β$249,000 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits).
