At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. The Platform Product Group builds trusted, scalable and compliant platform services used across the company. The Payments team is creating payment infrastructures, workflows and APIs to enable fiat-to-crypto flows and broader crypto adoption for consumers and institutions. This role expects a senior individual contributor who will architect and build payment systems, drive technical strategy, and uplevel other engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop a payments platform for processing billions of dollars of payments globally
  • Provide technical structure to teams and partner with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines and deliverables using technical expertise
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards
  • Write high-quality, well-tested, production-ready code and be hands-on with coding
  • Plan and implement a multi-year Payments engineering strategy with technical leadership
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to deliver quarterly roadmaps
  • Engage with upstream teams and enforce SLAs for data availability and quality
  • Contribute positive, inclusive teamwork and culture

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Experience building large distributed systems
  • Experience building simple, scalable and fault-tolerant APIs
  • Strong software engineering practices: high-quality code, testing, design reviews and processes
  • Experience mentoring and uplevelling more junior engineers
  • Ability to define technical roadmaps and influence cross-functional stakeholders

Nice to haves

  • Experience with Golang, gRPC, Docker, Kafka, AWS cloud, SnowFlake, Databricks
  • Experience in the financial/payments domain
  • Crypto-forward experience (onchain activity, interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps or blockchain services)

Work arrangement

  • Remote-first role with expectations for in-person participation throughout the year (team and company offsites). #LI-Remote

Pay Transparency

  • Target annual salary (depending on work location): $217,900 CAD. Full-time offers include bonus eligibility and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.).
