Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Platform - Risk Platform)

The Platform Product Group builds trusted, scalable and compliant platform components (Product Foundations, Machine Learning, Customer Experience, Infrastructure) used across the company. The Risk Platform team builds scalable, intelligent and resilient systems to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks to protect customers' assets and fight fraudulent activities.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop distributed systems.
• Provide technical structure to teams and collaborate with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps.
• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables using technical expertise.
• Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards.
• Design and implement foundational infrastructure components used by engineering teams in production (examples given: dynamic configuration, secrets storage, container orchestration).
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
• Passion for building an open financial system and an interest in crypto and blockchain technology.

Nice to haves

• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security systems.
• Exposure to or experience with online fraud prevention systems.
• Experience scaling through rapid company growth (e.g., from a small engineering org to hundreds of engineers).
• Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres.
• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

Additional details

• In-person participation is required throughout the year; the company is remote-first but not remote-only. Team and company offsites are held multiple times annually and attendance is expected and supported.
