Airbnb's Data Warehouse Infrastructure team builds and operates foundational big data infrastructure used by hundreds of engineers to collect, manage, and analyze data at scale. The team leverages open source technologies and cloud services to empower ETL, analytics, and machine learning workloads, while focusing on reliability, performance, observability, and cost efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the next-generation big data compute platform to empower data ETL, analytics, and machine learning at Airbnb.
- Operate, manage, and improve the reliability, performance, observability, and cost efficiency of the platform.
- Write maintainable and self-documenting code and perform code reviews.
- Contribute to and work on open source software, and have industry impact.
- Collaborate with other teams to define system requirements, identify potential solutions, and test and integrate systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex data infrastructure problems.
Requirements / Your Expertise
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience preferred.
- 10+ years of experience working with data infrastructure, with a focus on big data technologies.
- Proficiency with big data technologies such as Hadoop, YARN, Spark, Presto/Trino, Hive, Iceberg, Airflow, and AWS EMR.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Java and Scala.
- Extensive experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in multi-threading and concurrency programming.
- Familiarity with database systems, both SQL and NoSQL.
- Strong communication skills — written and verbal — and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Location
- This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager. You must live in a U.S. state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states are excluded). If employed by another Airbnb entity your recruiter will inform you about eligible states.
Benefits & Compensation
- This role may be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
- Base pay range (subject to change): $204,000 — $255,000 USD.
