Staff Software Engineer - Developer Experience Code Infrastructure

Reddit is a community of communities. The Developer Experience org designs, develops, and supports tools and processes that make common developer workflows efficient and reliable. This role is specific to the Code Infrastructure team, which owns source control, code review, code search, build infrastructure, continuous integration, and related internal developer tools. The Staff Engineer will cultivate the developer experience from initial code creation to delivered artifacts, engage with engineering teams, gather feedback, and incorporate that feedback into designs and plans.

Responsibilities

• Steer: select, scope, and drive high-leverage projects that accelerate development and align with Reddit goals.
• Build: execute on a strategy to create a developer experience that reduces toil and provides faster, higher-quality feedback across the SDLC, including source control, builds, testing, code review, integration, and knowledge search.
• Amplify: mentor, coach, and collaborate with other technical contributors.
• Collaborate: work cross-functionally across Reddit Engineering.
• Evolve: continuously learn and improve technical and non-technical abilities.

Requirements

• 7+ years identifying, driving, and executing high-impact projects.
• 5+ years working in developer experience, infrastructure, or platform teams; experience with developer tools, libraries, and frameworks.
• 5+ years industry experience with large-scale distributed systems and building highly scalable, reliable systems.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (examples listed: Drone, BuildKite, GitHub Actions, Bazel, Argo Workflows/Rollouts/CD, Temporal, and other adjacent tools).
• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud providers (AWS, GCP).
• Track record leading large-scale technical projects requiring cross-team and cross-functional collaboration.
• Strong ability to disambiguate complex problems, align stakeholders, and prioritize effectively.
• Excellent communication skills to drive consensus, navigate disagreements, influence decisions, and empower others.
• Strong empathy, curiosity, and humility to understand developer pain points and improve systems.
• History of mentorship and technical leadership.

Pay Transparency & Other Information

• Base pay range for U.S.-based candidates: $217,000 - $303,900 USD.
• Role may be eligible for equity (restricted stock units) and, depending on position, commission.
• In select roles and locations, interviews may be recorded, transcribed, and summarized by AI; candidates may opt out before scheduled interviews.
