Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Consumer Product Group to work on the Coinbase retail app and wallet-related features. The role balances deep individual contribution with technical leadership: anchoring new projects, setting technical direction, mentoring other engineers, and contributing to foundational infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop mass-market interfaces for digital currency apps by adding new functionality to existing cryptocurrencies (staking, voting, prediction features, etc.).
  • Provide technical structure to teams and partner with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables using technical expertise.
  • Mentor and train other engineers on design techniques and coding standards.
  • Design and implement foundational infrastructure components used by engineering teams in production (examples given: dynamic configuration, secrets storage, container orchestration).
  • Collaborate across the organization on complex projects and help engineers think big and take informed risks.
  • Participate in in-person team and company offsites and occasional required in-person collaboration throughout the year.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems that have significant impact.
  • Passion for building an open financial system and belief in crypto/blockchain technology.
  • Experience mentoring and training other engineers and establishing technical standards.

Nice to haves

  • Experience with blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum).
  • Familiarity with onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps).
  • Experience scaling companies quickly (e.g., growth from ~10 to 100s of engineers).
  • Experience decomposing monoliths into microservices.
  • Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, and Postgres.
  • Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.

Compensation & Other Details

  • Job #: GCFE06CA
  • Pay Transparency Notice: The listing shows a target annual salary range. Pay Range: $218,025 — $218,025 CAD. Full time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k) where applicable).
  • This role is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation throughout the year is expected and supported.

Benefits

  • Extended health care (coordinates with provincial coverage where applicable)
  • Dental and vision care
  • Virtual health care (Consult+)
  • Life & accident insurance, disability coverage
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)
  • Wellness stipend, mobile/internet reimbursement, connections stipend
  • Learning & development allowance
  • Employee assistance program
  • Travel medical policy for global travelers
  • Fertility benefits, generous time off/leave policy
