Details

Airbnb's Global Tax Engineering team builds the tax quotation platform and backend systems that enable Airbnb to operate across many jurisdictions. The team focuses on accuracy, latency, and reliability of customer-facing tax quotation systems and collaborates closely with product, data science, data engineering, and platform teams to deliver scalable, compliant solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Build microservices and APIs to drive platform integrations across web and mobile platforms.
  • Design, implement and scale platform infrastructure, applications, and tools for distributed systems, large compute clusters, and petabyte-scale storage.
  • Improve accuracy, latency, and reliability of customer-facing tax quotation systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, design, data science) to build interfaces and systems that evolve to meet business needs.
  • Make architectural trade-offs, apply design patterns, and deliver disciplined execution for highly-available 24x7 systems.
  • Profile and tune performance, apply resiliency patterns, and identify bottlenecks in large-scale applications.
  • Lead technical discussions, mentor engineers, and drive engineering excellence across teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience (preferred).
  • 9+ years of industry experience.
  • Demonstrable experience with one or more of: Java, Kotlin, relational databases, and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with AI development tools such as Co-Pilot.
  • Exposure to architectural patterns of high-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs and data pipelines.
  • Experience with profiling, performance tuning, resiliency patterns, observability, and incident management for reliable services.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate across teams (product, design, data science).
  • Experience or desire to work on greenfield initiatives and deliver on multi-year platform roadmaps and global rollouts.

  • Base pay range: $204,000 — $255,000 USD (actual base pay depends on factors including experience, skills, and market). Role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

Location & Work Model

  • This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager. You must live in a U.S. state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states may be excluded).
