Staff Software Engineer, Trust

Join Airbnb's Identity team to help enhance transparency and trust across our global community. This team focuses on identity verification, fraud prevention, vendor optimization, and building new verification capabilities for individuals and businesses. You will work with design, product, privacy/legal, operations, data science and other engineering teams to prototype, build, and productionize identity verification solutions that operate at scale.

Responsibilities

• Build and continuously improve systems that process large datasets and support high-traffic Airbnb product, business, and operational use cases.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, product managers, operations, data scientists, design, and privacy/legal to identify opportunities and prioritize requirements.
• Evaluate technical approaches and design product solutions that solve real-world identity and fraud problems.
• Hands-on prototype, develop, productionize, and test solutions and defenses to existing and emerging fraud trends.
• Lead high-impact initiatives to optimize vendor integrations, reduce vendor reliance, and drive cost savings.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior developers and other team members.

Requirements

• 9+ years industry experience in software engineering or related technical roles.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree (preferably in Computer Science) or equivalent experience.
• Experience building and scaling high-quality, high-traffic products or systems.
• Experience in fraud prevention, identity systems, or related domains.
• Strong ability to evaluate technical approaches, design solutions, and quantify business impact.
• Demonstrated experience driving alignment, managing projects, and collaborating with stakeholders.
• Experience working with ML, Computer Vision, or AI is a plus (used to reduce vendor reliance and improve verification capabilities).
• Experience working with vendors, streamlining integrations, and performing vendor performance evaluations.

Benefits & Compensation

• Base pay range: $204,000—$255,000 USD. Role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
• This position is US - Remote Eligible; may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed with your manager. You must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (see Airbnb careers for excluded states).
