Role overview
We are hiring a senior strategic finance thought partner to help shape ChatGPT Business, OpenAI’s self-serve product for teams adopting AI at work. You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Growth, Data Science, and Marketing leadership to set strategy, evaluate growth bets, guide pricing and packaging decisions, and build the financial rigor that allows the business to scale. This role is based in San Francisco, CA and uses a hybrid work model (3 days in office per week). OpenAI offers relocation assistance to new employees.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic finance partner to ChatGPT Business product teams, shaping product strategy, growth priorities, pricing decisions, and investment tradeoffs.
- Own the forecast for ChatGPT Business self-serve, including revenue, usage, margin, unit economics, leading indicators, and operating metrics.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Growth, Data Science, and Marketing on product-led growth initiatives, pricing and packaging decisions, experiments, channel strategy, and new product launches.
- Translate product usage, customer behavior, funnel dynamics, and financial data into clear recommendations that influence long-term strategy and day-to-day product decisions.
- Build planning and performance systems: forecast methodology, KPI architecture, decision frameworks, executive narratives, and repeatable reporting.
- Stay up to date on AI, SaaS, product-led growth, pricing, and competitive dynamics to inform investment and business-model evolution.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality executive and Board materials connecting business performance, product strategy, key risks, and strategic recommendations.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in investment banking, consulting, strategic finance, product finance, growth finance, or buy-side investing, plus operating experience at a fast-paced, scaling technology company.
- Experience supporting product teams on growth, pricing, packaging, monetization, or product strategy decisions, ideally in product-led growth, growth-stage SaaS, consumer/subscription products, or consumption-based business models.
- Exceptional analytical and financial modeling skills, including building product P&Ls, operating models, cohort and funnel analyses, pricing models, and unit economics.
- Strong business judgment and product instincts; ability to evaluate opportunities, tradeoffs, and risks in a fast-moving product environment.
- Ability to translate complex product, usage, customer, and financial data into clear recommendations for Product teams and senior leadership.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, with comfort making decisions when data is imperfect and the business is evolving.
- Familiarity with product-led growth, growth experimentation, pricing and packaging, consumption-based pricing, or usage-based business models.
- Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mentality and comfort operating in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
- Enthusiasm for AI deployment and OpenAI’s mission.
- Experience with SQL and comfort working directly with product analytics datasets.
