Details
The Intelligence and Investigations team seeks to rapidly identify and mitigate abuse and strategic risks to ensure a safe online ecosystem. The Strategic Intelligence & Analysis (SIA) team provides safety intelligence for OpenAI’s products by monitoring, analyzing, and forecasting real-world abuse, geopolitical risks, and strategic threats. Work informs safety mitigations, product decisions, and partnerships to ensure tools are deployed securely and responsibly.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA (hybrid, 3 days/week). Relocation support is available.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain analytical tools, evaluation methodologies, and quality metrics for intelligence workflows.
- Provide structure and technical rigor to analyst-built prototypes, redesigning workflows to be generalizable across use cases.
- Transform recurring needs into reusable templates, notebooks, graders, and lightweight tools.
- Surface novel harms and abuse patterns across a range of ecosystems and behaviors.
- Build rapid analysis workflows around emerging risks.
- Deliver, monitor, and maintain risk tools and dashboards.
- Use SQL, Python, and AI-powered tools to improve analysis speed, coverage, and consistency.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in technical intelligence, integrity, trust and safety, operational risk, or a related quantitative risk domain.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for querying, organizing, and transforming complex datasets.
- Experience delivering zero-to-one analyses and turning them into reusable playbooks, workflows, or lightweight tools.
- Experience with anomaly detection tools (example: PyOD) and discovery processes for surfacing novel or low-prevalence patterns.
- Ability to learn new systems, processes, datasets, and team dynamics quickly.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous and fast-moving environments and communicate findings clearly, including evidence, uncertainty, limitations, and trade-offs.
- Nice to have: technical knowledge of AI systems, experience building graders, classifiers, or analytical scorecards.
