The Risk traineeship enables you to steer your career in a direction that suits your talent and passion. The two-year programme includes a wide selection of (online) professional and personal skills trainings and consists of three six-month rotations. The traineeship covers credit risk, market risk, operational risk, model risk and compliance risk. During rotations you may work with big data in predictive risk models or help set up internal processes to minimise fraud risk. One rotation will be sustainability-related (sustainable finance, financial health topics or green tech initiatives). You will be coached by an HR trainee manager, have access to line and senior managers as mentors, and after graduation you will have personal sessions with an external coach.
Responsibilities
- Perform analyses on behalf of Retail and Wholesale Banking that influence company results and risk appetite.
- Participate in three six-month rotations (first chosen with HR guidance; second arranged by you; third leads to networking for a fixed position).
- Work on predictive risk models and experiment with big data during relevant rotations.
- Help set up internal processes to minimise the risk of fraud.
- Contribute to sustainability goals via a sustainability-related rotation and a group assignment.
- Collaborate with fellow trainees on group assignments to practice stakeholder management and expand your internal network.
Requirements
- Master degree from a university is required; preferably in econometrics, economics, law or (quantitative) finance. Degrees in mathematics, engineering and physics will also be considered.
- Interest in financial services, innovative banking and a drive to turn ideas into reality.
- Experience with extracurricular and (international) activities is valued.
- Good stakeholder management and networking skills.
- Application must include CV, motivational questions and grade lists (Bachelor and Master to date) in English.
- Interviews for the April 2026 intake will take place at ING headquarters in Amsterdam (two selection rounds: Nov/Dec 2025 and Jan 2026 as described in the vacancy).
