Airbnb's Payments Risk and Compliance team is focused on keeping the online payment ecosystem safe and optimized so anyone, anywhere can pay and be paid with confidence. This role supports payments compliance activities by managing high volumes of alerts and cases related to AML, economic sanctions, and other compliance programs. The position requires strong data skills, investigative experience, and the ability to handle complex, high-risk cases across global jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage high volumes of alerts and cases generated by multiple queues to satisfy AML, sanctions, and other compliance processes.
  • Design and run complex SQL queries to extract, clean, and aggregate large datasets.
  • Skim and investigate large/complex datasets to identify red flags and anomalies.
  • Investigate anomalies flagged by compliance tools or data pipelines; handle complex and ambiguous cases with significant business impact.
  • Lead deep-dive investigations on large, dynamic datasets to identify trends, risk patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Conduct in-depth investigations into transaction monitoring alerts focused on potential money laundering, exploitation, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other high-risk categories.
  • Handle escalated and special cases (e.g., child exploitation, international trafficking, large fraud rings) using advanced analytical and investigative techniques.
  • Investigate cases originating from customer network analysis, graphing connections, and tracing network trends across global jurisdictions.
  • Prepare detailed investigation reports, summaries, risk assessments, and comprehensive reporting for internal stakeholders and regulatory filings as required.
  • Advise on controls and process improvements for transaction monitoring and participate in cross-functional projects to enhance risk detection and mitigation.
  • Innovate and automate data analysis, risk detection, and compliance monitoring; assist leadership with procedure and workflow changes.
  • Identify and escalate compliance risks and opportunities to Compliance Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical equivalent.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency; expert in designing and running complex queries on large, dynamic financial datasets.
  • At least 3+ years of hands-on experience in data analytics, business intelligence, data engineering, risk, payments, compliance, AML, banking, or transaction monitoring, with a strong track record in high-risk investigations.
  • Experience writing complex queries on large and sometimes messy datasets; familiarity with performance tuning, ETL processes, and data warehousing.
  • Proven expertise managing complex special cases such as exploitation, trafficking, and coordinated fraud, including international context.
  • Demonstrable experience with data-driven casework and leveraging network mapping/graphing techniques for fraud ring tracing and customer connections.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to summarize findings and recommend actions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exceptional organization, process management ability, personal integrity, and a flexible, creative approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and ever-changing environment while maintaining attention to investigative detail and regulatory compliance.

  • Base pay range (annual, inclusive of allowances): ₹1,120,000—₹1,412,000 INR.
