Details

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The Claude.ai consumer product team builds the consumer web app — the interfaces, interactions, and moments that turn Claude from a capable model into a product people genuinely enjoy using. This is a product engineering role focused on building polished, high-quality web experiences and collaborating closely with designers and product managers to ship features that feel fast, reliable, and accessible.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship user-facing features for claude.ai's web experience, translating design intent into high-quality implementations
  • Focus on accessibility, performance (latency, responsiveness, reliability), and cross-device responsive behavior
  • Collaborate tightly with designers and product managers to shape feature scope and iterate quickly based on user feedback and testing
  • Consume shared components and tooling from the UI Platform team and surface gaps or pain points
  • Maintain a high bar for code quality and consistency within the consumer product codebase

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building consumer-facing web products with strong emphasis on UI quality and user experience
  • Proficient in React, Next.js, and TypeScript; experience with Node.js on the backend side of the stack
  • Strong attention to accessibility, performance characteristics, and responsive design
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment and collaborating closely with designers and product managers
  • Product-first engineering mindset: care about how things feel, load, and behave in real-world use
  • Education: at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Strong candidates may also have experience with

  • Accessibility best practices and building inclusive user interfaces
  • Performance optimization for consumer web apps (profiling, reducing bundle size, improving rendering performance, end-to-end latency)
  • Designing and implementing responsive layouts across screen sizes and devices
  • Working on products with real-time or streaming interactions (chat interfaces, live updates)
  • User research or usability testing and incorporating feedback into product decisions
  • Working on AI/ML products or in fast-moving consumer product environments

Compensation

  • Annual Salary: $320,000 - $405,000 USD

Logistics

  • Location-based hybrid policy: staff are expected to be in one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time
  • Offices / main locations listed: San Francisco, CA; New York City, NY; Seattle, WA
  • Visa sponsorship: Anthropic states they do sponsor visas and retain an immigration lawyer to assist, though sponsorship may not be possible for every role and candidate

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space for collaboration
