What you’ll do
We are seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the Head of Product and User Enablement within our Financial Crimes, Compliance, and Risk Oversight (FinCRO) team. This senior role is vital in allowing rapid and safe product growth and innovation, and serves as a lynchpin to reinforce the relationship between financial crime compliance, regulatory frameworks, and our overall business strategy, and product innovation. The successful candidate will lead a team of expert advisors who, working closely with our Product Legal team, advise our product teams on risk and compliance matters. They will work with our Risk teams to enable smooth product launches and ensure that Stripe's most innovative offerings meet existing requirements and inform our ability to help shape both the product and regulatory ecosystems.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Strategy: You will set the strategic vision for the Product and User Enablement pillar team within FinCRO, ensuring alignment with Stripe’s overarching objectives. Your leadership will promote a culture of accountability, empowerment, effective decision-making, and continuous improvement, while mentoring your team to effectively serve as key advisors on risk and compliance matters to support both Stripe’s technology ambitions and regulatory obligations. A key obligation of the team is to ensure strong and effective connections across risk types to allow regulated entities to understand and support product launches in their jurisdictions
- Deep Regulatory Knowledge and Trust: In this role, an intimate understanding of financial crime regulations and broad regulatory frameworks is essential. You will build trust with product counsels and product developers by providing insights into compliance requirements, ensuring they can confidently innovate and meet regulatory expectations. Your expertise will empower product teams to navigate regulatory challenges and maintain high standards of compliance, establishing you as a trusted ally and collaborator. You will also support implementation of scalable and flexible control frameworks to meet the broad range of Stripe products - non-regulated, or products in test/beta do not require the same frameworks as a full public rollout. Your team’s work will also highlight opportunities to evolve Stripe’s own risk appetite and policy frameworks and support our regulatory role-holders and policy teams to influence the policymaking agenda.
- Collaboration: A significant aspect of this role involves working closely with and empowering your team to work closely with our Product Legal team and Risk colleagues to provide coherent and precise advice regarding regulatory compliance across product development processes. You will ensure effective and integrated risk and compliance strategies with legal guidance, to provide consistent and informed support. This collaboration will be crucial in discussions related to product approval, risk assessment, and compliance strategy. You will also work closely with Risk stakeholders, including PERC and policy teams and lead your team to build effective launch sign-off processes.
- Trusted Advisor on Product and User matters: Act as the primary subject matter expert on and lead a team of experts on financial crime, risk, and regulatory compliance, providing invaluable guidance to product teams in managing and developing their products in key areas and working with GTM and Risk stakeholders to manage complex user engagements. You and your team will address risk and compliance issues related to stablecoins, money movement solutions, and the rapidly evolving landscape of agentic payments flows. You and the team will also support rapid understanding and approval processes across risk and product teams to allow effective application of our risk appetite for platform users. You will need to proactively identify potential challenges that will allow product teams to create cutting-edge products while adhering to compliance standards and will influence key Stripe growth strategies. You will also need to identify win-win opportunities to help support users, while also ensuring effective risk management when users are operating outside of Stripe’s risk appetite.
- Regulatory Influence and Advocacy: Your role will also involve gathering feedback and identifying opportunities to influence our own risk appetite and policies as well as regulation, especially in emergent payment and technology areas around stablecoins and AI. You and the team will serve as a critical connection between Stripe’s product teams and accountable role-holders within Stripe’s regulated entities, where you will enable and support them in advocating for Stripe’s interests with local regulators while effectively articulating Stripe's approach to compliance to enhance our reputation and facilitate smoother interactions with regulators.
- Stakeholder Relationships: Building and nurturing strong relationships with various internal stakeholders, including product teams, legal partners, go-to-market teams, and risk management specialists, will be paramount. You will facilitate open dialogue and harmonize strategies that empower informed decision-making concerning compliance and risk management, ensuring all teams are aligned with Stripe’s objectives.
- Thought Leadership: Staying abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies will be integral to your role. Your insights into financial crime and regulatory trends and potential impacts on and opportunities for our products will inform internal strategies and elevate Stripe’s profile within the fintech landscape.
- Risk Management: Evaluate and mitigate risks associated with our product offerings by collaborating with risk assessment teams. This includes assessing the potential impacts of new financial products, such as stablecoins, on our overall compliance framework, as well as working with product teams on already deployed and operating products to communicate on emerging risks or changing expectations for the existing products suite. You will ensure that our risk management practices align with regulatory expectations and market realities.
Who you are

Minimum requirements:
- A proven track record in a senior leadership role (20+ yrs experience) in financial services, regulatory compliance, or risk management; experience in previous regulatory accountable roles is strongly preferred
- 5+ years experience managing a large, preferably global team
- A broad familiarity with financial crime and money transmission regulations, anti-money laundering (AML) guidelines, banking partner expectations, card network rules and schemes and consumer protection laws is crucial.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are mandatory. You must be able to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into accessible and actionable advice for cross-functional teams, establishing yourself as a trusted partner across the organization.
- Strong strategic and analytical skills are required, enabling you to connect the dots between compliance, product development, and regulatory changes in order to inform and guide product strategies effectively.
- Outstanding relationship-building skills, with the ability to earn trust and credibility across teams and with external partners. Your collaborative approach will enhance alignment between compliance, product, and engineering functions.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while driving results and maintaining a constant focus on compliance. You will be adept at managing multiple priorities and balancing competing demands effectively.

- Familiarity with emerging payment technologies, especially stablecoins and innovative consumer payment solutions

Hybrid work at Stripe
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
Pay and benefits
The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is £159,200 - £238,800. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
