Are you ready to take on the challenge of designing innovative solutions in a dynamic, data-driven environment? At ABN AMRO, weβre seeking an IT Engineer with System Architect role to join our Data Devils team, where we manage high-volume data streams, enabling seamless batch and streaming data integration. This role contributes to fraud detection and business intelligence capabilities for a zero-fraud client experience.
Responsibilities
- Analyze the current application landscape and develop high-performance solution designs for data integration challenges.
- Design and implement data solutions leveraging Azure cloud technologies.
- Develop real-time and batch data flow strategies using Apache Kafka as the streaming platform (including Kafka Streams, Kafka Connect, and Kafka ecosystem tools).
- Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure technical solutions align with business objectives.
- Ensure all architectural designs meet banking governance, security and compliance standards.
- Mentor and provide guidance to technical teams on best practices and emerging trends.
Requirements
Hard skills:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in solution design & architecture, with the ability to design and implement complex technical solutions.
- 5+ years of experience working with Apache Kafka (including Kafka Streams, Kafka Connect and Kafka ecosystem tools).
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Azure cloud platforms and technologies, and an understanding of their integration capabilities.
- Solid understanding of event-driven architectures and microservices-based design patterns.
- Familiarity with Java development and ability to write/debug code for Kafka producers/consumers and stream processing logic.
Soft skills:
- English proficiency.
- Excellent communication and persuasion skills.
- Proactive, open attitude; flexible and likes challenges.
- Willingness to collaborate and learn with the team; participate in internal team structures (Triangles and circles).
- An automation mindset to design solutions that streamline repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
Nice-to-have:
- Proficiency in developing custom Kafka connectors or stream processing applications using Java or related frameworks (e.g., Spring Kafka).
- Experience with Linux environments.
- Exposure to DevOps and Agile methodologies.
- Understanding of schema management tools like Confluent Schema Registry or Avro.

- The Data Devils team processes millions of records daily to enable real-time, batch, and streaming processes.
- Core technologies: Apache Kafka and Azure cloud technologies for secure and reliable data transfer.

Compensation & Hours
- Gross monthly salary: β¬5.847 - β¬8.353 per month (range displayed is based on a 36-hour work week, including vacation pay and benefit budget).
- Benefit Budget: 11% of salary. Five weeks of vacation per year (option to purchase additional weeks). Personal development budget β¬1,000/year (accumulates to β¬3,000).
