Airbnb’s Payments team builds and operates the platform that powers money movement across the Airbnb marketplace. This Product Manager role sits in the Payments and Commerce Platform domain and focuses on guest pay-ins: launching new payment capabilities and experiences, optimizing transaction processing and orchestration, reducing operational complexity, and ensuring secure, reliable, and frictionless payment experiences for guests worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Champion the vision for a world-class guest payins experience and processing on the Payments Platform
- Shape and execute a thoughtful, multi-year roadmap to make paying as seamless and delightful as staying at an Airbnb
- Partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Analytics, Partnerships, Treasury, Finance, Platform, Product Marketing, and UX Design; align on goals and turn ideas into reality
- Craft clear product narratives, user stories, and requirements that keep teams inspired and focused
- Launch experiments, define meaningful success metrics, and plan smooth rollouts that scale
- Define, monitor, and analyze KPIs that inform payment success and health
- Integrate partner products and services to elevate platform intelligence and efficiency
- Collaborate to build actionable playbooks for resolving guest payment challenges and supporting the global community
- Stay curious about the latest in payments and bring best practices and innovations to Airbnb
Requirements
- 7+ years of product management experience, launching new payment methods or partner integrations across the payments ecosystem (including gateways, PSPs, networks, issuers, and acquirers)
- Deep platform payments product management know-how; experience building flexible products that empower a range of business customers
- Framework-oriented thinker who can develop use cases, prioritize features, and make trade-offs between short-term and long-term bets
- Hands-on collaborator with engineers; able to write user stories and requirements and influence technical designs
- Proven ability to lead through influence across engineering, data science, finance, compliance, legal, and business partners
- Strong communication and storytelling skills: able to explain the "why" and dig into details when needed
- Data-driven with robust analytical skills and a passion for using insights to drive outcomes
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous, startup-like environment
Domain & technical experience (explicitly mentioned)
- Ecommerce card-not-present (CNP) payments and end-to-end money movement between merchant platforms and processing partners
- Transaction processing: real-time and batch processing, payment routing, and failover strategies across global PSPs
- Transaction orchestration: Cardholder Initiated Transactions (CIT), Merchant Initiated Transactions (MIT), incremental/capture flows, partial authorizations, scheduled billing, and smart retries
- Payment retry & optimization: intelligent retry logic, dynamic routing, and decline code analysis to maximize acceptance rates
- Authentication: experience implementing SCA and 3DS2
- Partner tools: network tokens and account updater capabilities
- Alternative payment methods: digital wallets, open banking, instant payments, and local payment rails
- Settlement & reconciliation: multi-currency settlement, reconciliation workflows, and chargeback handling
- Payment UX: experience optimizing multi-device, multi-currency payment flows is a plus
- Familiarity with collaborative tools and techniques (Airtable, SQL, Google Docs, Scrum/Agile, Figma, Invision)
Location
- US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb Payments, Inc. is a registered entity (approved states are listed in the posting).
Compensation & Benefits
- Base pay range: $194,000 — $239,000 USD
- This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits
