Role overview

You will join the Community Support Platform (CSP) at Airbnb, a critical system that drives customer support operations. CSP empowers Airbnb's global network of Community Support ambassadors by utilizing AI and platform tooling to deliver efficient and exceptional customer service. This role sits on the CS Product team and focuses on converging software engineering with GenAI techniques to create product impact for internal and external customers.

Key focus areas include crafting AI prompts, implementing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) patterns, performing model fine-tuning, designing AI orchestration workflows, dataset engineering, and building GenAI-based backend systems that are efficient and scalable.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend systems and prompt systems to enhance AI-driven workflows for customer service.
• Drive technical vision and strategy for workflow and backend optimization.
• Lead and contribute across the full development lifecycle: technical design, implementation, testing, experimentation, and deployment.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, engineering, and data science teams to improve AI prompt effectiveness and backend orchestration.
• Participate in code and design reviews and mentor peers to improve technical quality.
• Optimize system availability, performance, and scalability, and push enhancements for operational efficiency.

Requirements / Your Expertise

• 5-9 years of software development experience in service-oriented architectures and backend development.
• Expertise in workflow optimization and backend systems with emphasis on scalable and flexible architecture.
• Expertise in designing and iterating on prompt engineering for LLM-driven scenarios.
• Expertise with RAG patterns, memory routing, and agent planning.
• Experience integrating LLMs with APIs, vector databases, and orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with dataset engineering and model fine-tuning for generative AI scenarios.
• Proficiency in designing backend systems with focus on technical quality, efficiency, and resilience.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills; passion for agile development, system optimization, and team productivity improvements.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s/Ph.D. degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.

Location & Working Model

• This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager.

How We'll Take Care of You / Compensation

• Base pay range: $191,000—$223,000 USD.
• This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
• Actual base pay depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
