About Sentry

Bad software is everywhere, and Sentry is on a mission to help developers write better software faster. Sentry builds performance and error monitoring tools used by organizations like Disney, Microsoft, and Atlassian. The company embraces a hybrid work model with Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays as in-office anchor days.

This role is for a Senior Software Engineer on the JavaScript SDK team. You will work across the JavaScript ecosystem on SDKs for the browser, React, Node.js, and Next.js, as well as build and CLI tooling. The team emphasizes end-to-end ownership, high-quality tests and documentation, open-source collaboration, and leveraging AI tools to improve developer productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a range of JavaScript SDKs (browser, React, Node.js, Next.js) with a focus on the Next.js SDK.
  • Own features end-to-end: plan, implement, write unit & integration tests, and produce clear documentation.
  • Improve developer experience by utilizing AI tools to increase productivity and address complex problems.
  • Contribute to and represent Sentry in the open-source community (including interactions with TC39 and the OpenTelemetry SIG).
  • Collaborate directly with Customer Operations to triage and fix critical bugs and interact with users on GitHub and at conferences.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, web developer, or similar role.
  • Deep expertise developing web applications, libraries, or SDKs using JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience with Next.js.
  • Experience across browser, React, and Node.js ecosystems (SDK development experience strongly preferred).
  • Strong skills writing unit and integration tests and producing high-quality documentation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate to San Francisco.

Bonus

  • History of contributing to or maintaining open-source libraries.
  • Experience engaging with open-source committees or working groups.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $200,000 to $280,000 per year (actual salary determined by factors such as location, experience, and skills).
  • Eligibility for Sentry's employee benefit plans/programs, including incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage. See Sentry Benefits for more details.

Work Model & Culture

  • Hybrid work model; in-office anchor days on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays to encourage collaboration.
  • Emphasis on open source, developer tooling, rapid iteration, and direct impact.

If you're excited to build developer tools used by millions and contribute to a globally recognized open-source project full-time, you are encouraged to apply.
