Airbnb’s Community Support Engineering (CSE) team is building intelligent, AI-augmented systems to deliver timely, personalized, and always-on support experiences at global scale. The CS Foundations Engineering (CSFE) team delivers robust platforms, reusable systems, and developer-facing infrastructure to enable agents, accelerate product iteration, and support AI-powered customer support.
Responsibilities
- Drive design and development of AI-powered solutions that shape the Airbnb customer support experience, from inception to production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners (product managers, operations, data scientists, engineers) to identify opportunities for business impact, refine requirements, and prioritize ML initiatives.
- Hands-on develop, productionize, and operate machine learning models and pipelines at scale for both batch and real-time use cases.
- Work with large-scale structured and unstructured data; explore, experiment, build, and continuously improve ML models and pipelines for product, business, and operational use cases.
- Leverage third-party and in-house ML tools & infrastructure to enable fast model development, low-latency serving, and model quality upkeep.
- Design scalable AI workflow orchestration to power agent co-pilot tools and intelligent response automation.
- Build unified, platform-native case management systems and modernize tools (e.g., Delivery Management Console) to include AI-powered insights, outlier detection, and agent coaching.
- Establish shared data foundations to enable ML/AI solutions, feedback loops, and personalization across the support journey.
- Mentor and guide engineers and ML practitioners; provide technical leadership, architectural direction, and foster ML application as a core discipline across teams.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of experience building, testing, and shipping AI models and products from inception to production.
- 2+ years of experience specifically with GenAI.
- 10+ years of experience leading and guiding machine learning and AI projects as a senior individual contributor.
- Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with machine learning best practices, including training/serving skew minimization, feature engineering, and feature/model selection.
- Strong familiarity with algorithms and domains such as neural networks/deep learning and optimization, and experience across domains including NLP, computer vision, personalization, search & recommendation, marketplace optimization, and anomaly detection.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with agentic and automation technologies for automating processes and developing agentic solutions and frameworks.
- Experience across the entire AI product lifecycle from incubation to production at scale, applying agile practices in Applied AI/ML.
- Infrastructure experience: building robust testing frameworks for agent behavior validation and continuous improvement, and driving architectural requirements on ML infrastructures.
Location & Work Arrangement
- This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager.
- You must live in a state where Airbnb Payments, Inc. is a registered entity; approved remote states are listed in the job posting.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base pay range: $244,000—$305,000 USD. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. Actual base pay depends on experience, skills, and market factors.
