The team works on payments integrations, promotional efforts, KYC flows, and other localized features while maintaining compliance with Canadian regulatory standards. Many roles are remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year, with team and company offsites held multiple times annually.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust backend systems and APIs that power Coinbase products for Canadian users.
  • Own development of server-side features that directly drive revenue and enhance user experiences.
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and designers to build scalable, end-to-end solutions.
  • Optimize system performance, reliability, and security in compliance with Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • Solve complex, large-scale technical challenges related to distributed systems, databases, and microservices architecture.
  • Write high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code that meets the needs of users and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience developing backend systems and APIs using languages such as Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
  • Strong understanding of server-side architecture best practices, including performance optimization, security, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Experience integrating with databases, caching layers, and other storage solutions.
  • Proven ability to design and implement complex business logic in a reliable and efficient manner.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, microservices, and containerized environments (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Experience collaborating across product and engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Commitment to writing high-quality, well-tested code that serves real customer needs.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience as a Full Stack Developer.
  • Fluency in both English and French.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and participating in tech conferences.
  • Experience with cryptocurrency, blockchain, or fintech platforms.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $154,000—$154,000 CAD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision).

  • In-person participation is expected throughout the year; team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually.
