Join Coinbase's Financial Engineering team to own the architecture and long-term technical strategy for the financial data and reporting systems that power Coinbase's financial operations. Financial Engineering partners with Finance, Accounting, Tax, and other Platform teams to ensure every dollar and coin that moves through Coinbase is tracked accurately, reported on time, and fully auditable. This role focuses on building foundational backend systems that scale across crypto, fiat, and new product verticals. Coinbase is remote-first (Remote - USA) and expects quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-year technical strategy and architecture for financial data pipelines, reporting systems, and operational infrastructure across entities, currencies, and product lines.
  • Drive design and delivery of new backend services in Golang, applying modern cloud technologies and setting engineering standards.
  • Lead high-stakes initiatives to improve accuracy, timeliness, and auditability of financial data; identify systemic risks and architect resilient solutions proactively.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, Tax, Compliance, and Platform teams to translate complex financial and regulatory requirements into scalable, well-tested technical solutions.
  • Mentor senior engineers, lead design reviews, and establish architectural patterns and coding standards to raise the engineering bar across Financial Engineering.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of backend software development experience, including designing, building, and scaling large-scale distributed systems in production.
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture and platform-building efforts that transform fragmented services into coherent, reusable systems (shared frameworks, unified APIs, multi-tenant architectures) — ideally within financial or transactional domains.
  • Deep expertise in Go (or a similar backend language) with the ability to architect fault-tolerant, highly reliable systems handling high-volume financial data across multiple entities and currencies.
  • Proven track record of setting technical direction across teams, influencing roadmaps, and driving alignment with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate complex financial, accounting, or compliance requirements into well-structured, maintainable systems operating with precision at scale.
  • Experience applying generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to produce business-ready outputs and measurable workflow improvements.

Benefits / Compensation

  • Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $218,025 — $256,500 USD.
  • Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
  • Coinbase is an Equal Opportunity Employer and provides accommodations for applicants with disabilities (contact accommodations[at]coinbase.com).
