Our Operations and Change traineeship enables you to steer your career in a direction that suits your talent and passion. The 2 year programme allows you to discover yourself through a wide selection of (online) professional and personal skills trainings.

The Chief Operations Office (COO) is leading when it comes to transforming and running ING as the bank of the future. COO brings together many disciplines which means that as a trainee you will be working at the intersection of digitalisation, process engineering, data management and optimising the client journey. Therefore, this role asks for talented people that can drive optimisation and change, always look at things end-to-end, are true believers of standardisation, and can switch easily between an operational environment and the board room.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a two-year traineeship with three rotations (~6 months each) across Operations and Change disciplines.
  • Work on operational excellence projects (e.g., improving teams that handle customer enquiries and requests).
  • Tackle project work as Blackbelt or similar roles for segments like Wholesale Banking or Retail Banking.
  • Deliver group assignments with fellow trainees across tracks to solve business-relevant challenges and expand your internal network.
  • Arrange and pursue international experience during one rotation (encouraged) for personal and professional development.
  • During rotations, contribute to ING’s sustainability goals via sustainability-related rotations and group assignments.
  • Network and secure a fixed/permanent position by the end of the programme (e.g., Junior Consultant, Blackbelt, Lead of a Customer Loyalty Team).

Requirements

  • Academic master’s degree from a university, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Information Management, Change Management, Business Administration or (Industrial) Engineering.
  • Interest in financial services and innovative banking.
  • Metrics- and process-driven mindset with a strong drive for efficiency, optimisation and standardisation.
  • Good stakeholder management skills and the ability to communicate at different levels.
  • Demonstrated personal development through extracurricular (preferably international) activities.
  • Enthusiastic, hard-working and humble attitude.
  • Application materials (CV, motivational questions and full grade lists for Bachelor and Master to date) must be uploaded in English.

Training and Coaching

  • HR trainee manager support in choosing rotations and ongoing coaching throughout the three rotations.
  • Access to line managers and senior manager mentors; after graduation, some personal sessions with an external coach.
  • Participation in two Global Trainee events (professional and personal skills) and various virtual trainee days.
  • Extensive virtual and in-person training package: Virtual Quarterly training days, two training courses of your choosing, two Global Trainee Events.

    C3.943 (based on a 40 h/week).

Location & Interviews

  • Primary location / interviews: ING headquarters in Amsterdam (CDR - Amsterdam - Cedar). All interview rounds take place at the Amsterdam headquarters.

    • Round 2 – January 2026: HR Interviews: 12 Jan - 16 Jan; Business Panels: 26 Jan - 30 Jan
