Details

Anthropic’s Fellows Program supports promising technical talent in AI research and engineering through funding, mentorship, and empirical projects aligned with Anthropic’s research priorities. Fellows primarily use external infrastructure, including open-source models and public APIs, and work toward a public output such as a paper submission.

Responsibilities

  • Complete four months of full-time research.
  • Work on an empirical project in the ML Systems & Performance workstream.
  • Build a CPU simulator for accelerator workloads.
  • Add backends for different accelerators to an open-source project.
  • Build on-demand infrastructure for infrastructure-heavy fellowship projects.
  • Build complex synthetic data or environment pipelines.
  • Analyze and debug model training processes.
  • Collaborate across research and engineering disciplines.
  • Communicate research and engineering ideas clearly.

Requirements

  • Fluent Python programming skills.
  • Availability to work full-time on the Fellows Program.
  • A strong technical background in computer science, mathematics, or physics.
  • Strong software engineering skills and experience building complex ML systems.
  • Ability to balance research exploration with engineering rigor and operational reliability.
  • Comfort working with large-scale distributed systems and high-performance computing.
  • Experience training, fine-tuning, or evaluating large language models is particularly relevant.
  • Motivation to help make AI safe and beneficial for society.
  • Work authorization in the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada, and the ability to be located in that country during the program.

Program Details

  • Four-month, full-time program with a possible extension.
  • Direct mentorship from Anthropic researchers.
  • Access to shared workspaces in Berkeley, California, or London, United Kingdom.
  • Remote participation is available for fellows located in the United Kingdom, United States, or Canada.
  • Funding for compute of approximately $15,000 per month and other research expenses.
  • The company does not guarantee full-time offers after the program.

Compensation

The expected base stipend is 3,850 USD, 2,310 GBP, or 4,300 CAD per week, plus benefits that vary by country. The expected schedule is 40 hours per week.

Interview Process

The process includes an initial application and reference check, technical assessments and interviews, and a research discussion.

Visa Information

Anthropic is not currently able to sponsor visas for fellows. Candidates must already have or independently obtain full-time work authorization in the United Kingdom, United States, or Canada.
