Details

Anthropic is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to join the Beneficial Deployments team and maximize the impact of Claude in the life sciences. The role focuses on accelerating scientific progress from research and development through translation by building technical infrastructure and deploying AI within real scientific workflows.

The engineer will work directly with research partners such as the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and The Allen Institute, building alongside their engineering teams and developing agents, ecosystem tooling, and reusable infrastructure for the broader life sciences community.

Responsibilities

Partner with flagship life sciences research institutions to understand scientific workflows, build with engineering teams, and take projects from early exploration to production systems integrated into day-to-day research.
Develop reusable ecosystem infrastructure, including MCP servers for domain-specific data sources such as genomics platforms, literature databases, and experimental repositories.
Build integrations for scientific instruments, scientifically grounded benchmarks, and reusable agent skills that institutions can adopt.
Identify challenges in deploying AI in life sciences, including heterogeneous data, auditability requirements, and the prototype-to-trust gap, and communicate findings to product, engineering, and research teams.
Create technical content and documentation that enables partners to self-serve and scale successful solutions globally.

Requirements

At least 4 years of experience as a Software Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or technical founder.
Production experience shipping systems that real users depend on.
Deep research experience in life sciences, biomedical research, or scientific computing.
Technical familiarity with genomics, neuroscience, or drug discovery is a bonus.
Experience building LLM-powered tools or applications, including prompting, context engineering, agent architectures, and evaluation frameworks.
Demonstrated ability to ship production code as a software engineer, forward-deployed engineer, or technical founder.
A scrappy, adaptable approach, with the ability to build from scratch, work across multiple functions, drive clarity in ambiguous situations, and take on multiple responsibilities.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
A field of study relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
