Details

Anthropic’s Research Tools team builds systems that support large-scale, distributed fine-tuning runs and improve researcher productivity. This role manages a team of machine learning and distributed systems experts, helping make research systems and tools efficient, supporting rapid iteration on model development and research, and continuously evolving infrastructure to incorporate new research advances.

The role works across technical groups, including research teams incorporating innovations into production fine-tuning pipelines, product teams iterating on customer-oriented model improvements, and infrastructure teams improving the efficiency of training runs and data pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize the team’s work in collaboration with the technical lead, research teams, and product teams to support fast iteration on research projects and training runs.
  • Design processes such as postmortem reviews, incident response, and on-call rotations to help the team operate effectively.
  • Coach and support reports in understanding and pursuing their professional growth.
  • Run recruiting efforts efficiently, including growing the team during a period of rapid growth.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience as a manager and an active interest in people management.
  • Ability to quickly understand complex technical systems and operate effectively at a high level across them.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A field of study relevant to the role, as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with research teams, particularly as part of a research-to-production pipeline.
  • Strong people management skills, including coaching, performance evaluation, mentorship, and career development.
  • Strong project management skills, including prioritization and communication across team and organizational boundaries.
  • Experience recruiting for a team, including predicting staffing needs, designing interview loops, evaluating candidates, and closing candidates.

Compensation

The annual salary range is $405,000–$850,000 USD.

Work Policy and Immigration
