About the Team
Stripe processes payments, runs marketplaces, detects fraud, helps entrepreneurs start internet businesses, and builds developer-friendly APIs. Engineering teams build the business logic for these products. Software engineering managers lead teams that build and expand APIs, services, and experiences, and work with partners to launch new markets and vertical capabilities.
Stripe Terminal helps users extend their online presence to the physical world. The Terminal team's mission is to make it easy for businesses to accept in-person payments, enabling unified online and in-person commerce.
The Terminal Commerce team focuses on:
- Enterprise features, including on-reader forms, tipping, and gift cards
- Payment features, including DCC, surcharging, and multi-capture
- Point-of-sale integrations for enterprise customers
- Low-code and no-code solutions to enable faster user onboarding
Responsibilities
- Work with leaders across Stripe to create and drive the vision for Unified Commerce, bringing in-person and online payments together
- Drive the team's roadmap and priorities while managing dependencies across the company
- Support the engineering team in achieving a high level of technical excellence and stability
- Manage processes that help the team do its best work and interface effectively with the rest of Stripe
- Recruit excellent engineers in collaboration with Stripe's recruiting team and develop engineers to help them advance their careers
- Understand core Stripe APIs, influence designs involving card-present payments, and build a Unified Commerce platform with the team
- Empower and guide the team in building and scaling integrations and core abstractions across payment methods, gift cards, and point-of-sale connectors for large-scale enterprise customers
- Drive features such as surcharging and tipping across Enterprise and SaaS platform merchants
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- A strong technical background with 5+ years of engineering leadership experience across mobile, API, and backend development teams, with demonstrated broad technical leadership
- Experience building diverse teams to tackle challenging technical problems
- An understanding of the impact of AI and a strong product mindset for turning emerging capabilities into clear customer and business value
- Experience thriving in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts
- An understanding of how to build and manage scalable, resilient, and observable systems across the stack
- The ability to listen well, internalize ideas from across the organization, and set a vision that others are excited to support
- The ability to understand the perspectives of merchants and users
- Experience leading large technical projects with internal and external dependencies and impact across multiple teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry experience building or managing teams that have built in-person checkout experiences or payment method integrations
- Experience with in-person payments hardware and software, such as card readers and firmware
- A deep understanding of the payments industry
