Details

As a subject matter expert for load balancing, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of global network infrastructure supporting Bloomberg’s core products and services. This includes building and maintaining a scalable, secure, reliable, and robust load-balancing environment across large-scale data centers and more than one hundred edge sites.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software tools to manage a large-scale, multi-vendor network, with an emphasis on automation, telemetry, and model-driven infrastructure as code.
  • Automate the full network lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, observability, testing, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
  • Collaborate with architecture and design teams and the CTO office to implement technologies that improve scalability, efficiency, and operational resilience.
  • Develop tools and platforms that enhance the observability, reliability, and performance of the production network.
  • Enhance monitoring and observability frameworks, including intelligent alerting and self-remediation capabilities, to reduce manual intervention and improve incident response.
  • Define and measure service-level objectives (SLOs) to track infrastructure performance and reliability.
  • Write software using orchestration systems to automate tasks and interact with other systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote software engineering best practices.
  • Practice and promote the use of a modern software development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of engineering experience in an infrastructure role or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive experience as a Software, Network Production, or Site Reliability Engineer, particularly in the load-balancing space.
  • Experience building, maintaining, and continuously enhancing automation for scalability and efficiency in network infrastructure operations.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation or orchestration frameworks such as Ansible, Airflow, Terraform, Chef, or Salt.
  • Proven experience with object-oriented programming languages, preferably Python.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a similar field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience managing and automating network devices at scale, such as Juniper, Nokia, Arista, Cisco, Palo Alto, F5, Whitebox, or Broadcom devices, is desirable.
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization is desirable.
  • Experience with software load balancers is desirable.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and mentor others.

Benefits

Benefits may include merit increases, incentive compensation for exempt roles, paid holidays, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability benefits, a 401(k) match, life insurance, and wellness programs.
