Details

Anthropic is seeking a Policy Program Manager to join its Safeguards team and help ensure compliance with AI safety laws and regulations worldwide. The role works closely with Legal and technical teams to translate emerging requirements into programs, controls, and deliverables. The successful candidate will need a detailed understanding of how AI models and products are built, evaluated, and safeguarded.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex safety initiatives that identify, assess, and mitigate risks from frontier models, from initial risk assessment through safeguard deployment.
  • Partner with the Safeguards incident management team to strengthen incident response and reporting processes, including escalation policies and external reporting requirements.
  • Conduct post-incident reviews and work with subject-matter experts to incorporate findings into model and product safeguards.
  • Own safety strategies and deliverables for AI systems used in high-risk settings, including risk assessments, technical documentation, and information required by deploying customers to use systems safely.
  • Define required safety and risk controls for models and products, assign control owners, document procedures, and confirm that controls operate as intended.
  • Work with risk-area owners to understand AI risks, safety evaluations, and mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare safety documentation, transparency reports, and regulatory submissions.

Requirements

  • Experience in trust and safety, AI safety, or a related field, including designing and implementing safeguards against misuse or harm.
  • Understanding of AI safety, principal risk areas, evaluations, and safeguards sufficient to engage substantively with technical experts.
  • Experience running risk assessment or harm mitigation programs from identification through resolution.
  • Experience translating policy or regulatory requirements into practical operational processes.
  • Ability to drive complex, cross-functional programs to completion in a fast-moving environment, including with technical teams outside the candidate's discipline.
  • Clear written communication skills for technical, legal, and external audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and judgment to identify and escalate risks early.
  • Commitment to the safe development and deployment of AI.
  • Preferred: experience with AI-specific regulation such as the EU AI Act; incident response programs; escalation paths and external reporting obligations; safety documentation, transparency reports, or regulatory submissions; and technical or research teams working on safety evaluations.
  • Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Required field of study: A field relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
  • Required years of experience correlate with the internal job-level requirements.
