Details

GitLab is seeking an Intermediate Professional Services Technical Architect to lead the technical direction of customer engagements from scoping and discovery through delivery. The role involves designing architectures and implementation plans for GitLab infrastructure and functionality, coordinating implementation across GitLab Professional Services and partners, supporting cloud and on-premises deployments, performing migrations to GitLab, and providing DevOps and DevSecOps consulting in a remote, asynchronous environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver GitLab reference architecture implementations for self-managed and cloud environments using infrastructure as code.
  • Lead source code management and CI/CD migrations to GitLab, including large-scale enterprise migrations using Congregate.
  • Lead the full technical delivery lifecycle, from technical discovery and scoping through implementation and handoff.
  • Produce high-level and detailed technical designs aligned with customer requirements and Statements of Work.
  • Evaluate and communicate scalability, security, and compliance considerations in proposed architectures and implementation plans.
  • Deploy and configure GitLab in on-premises environments and major cloud providers using Terraform, Ansible, and the GitLab Environment Toolkit (GET).
  • Plan and execute source-system migrations while protecting data integrity and minimizing downtime.
  • Provide DevOps and DevSecOps consulting and guidance on frameworks such as the Delivery Governance Framework and GitLab Flow.
  • Coordinate implementation work across GitLab team members, partners, and customer stakeholders in an asynchronous environment.
  • Mentor Professional Services and partner consultants through documentation, delivery kits, training materials, and enablement sessions.
  • Maintain delivery automation assets with clean, maintainable code and appropriate unit and integration testing.
  • Support scoping and SOW creation, stay current on monthly GitLab releases, and assist with technical vetting and staffing assessments.
  • Maintain 55% billable utilization.
  • Develop case studies, presentations, design documentation, and best-practice methodologies.
  • Work with customer project teams to articulate required work at the task level.

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead technical discussions and communicate risks and trade-offs clearly.
  • Preferred alignment with Pacific, Mountain, or Central time zones.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% at times.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering at least two of the following consulting services: source code management migration, cloud architecture, DevOps engineering, or CI/CD consulting.
  • Enterprise software development experience and the ability to translate requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
  • DevOps platform experience designing and implementing reliable, scalable systems with clear performance and security trade-offs.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing infrastructure in cloud and on-premises environments using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable automation and integration code, including Terraform modules, Ansible roles, and scripts, and to validate changes through testing and code review.
  • Experience performing migrations to GitLab using Congregate or similar migration tooling.
  • Working knowledge of data consistency and integrity concepts, including ACID properties, and their impact on migration design and performance trade-offs.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively across time zones.
  • Comfort working in a remote, asynchronous environment using documented decisions, issues, proposals, and runbooks.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or another advanced technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
