Information about the position

At Vinted, backend engineers are integral members of cross-functional product teams, working alongside mobile and web engineers, QA, product managers, designers, and decision scientists to build reliable products used by millions.

Vinted Go, the logistics arm of Vinted Group, operates an end-to-end shipping network with its own driver app, sorting centers, and pickup/drop-off points across Europe and the USA.

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the team building Point of Sales (POS), a new business line for Vinted Go Shops. POS team enables shops to accept secure, in-person payments through the Vinted Go Shop app, helping merchants grow their businesses using the devices they already have.

As we expand POS across markets, we're improving merchant onboarding, introducing new payment capabilities, and building services that help shops manage their sales and payments. You'll play a key role in shaping the backend systems behind these experiences, while rapidly experimenting and iterating to achieve product-market fit.

In this position, you’ll

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power mid-mile transport and warehouse operations.
• Design, build, and maintain reliable, scalable backend services supporting merchant onboarding, payment processing, transactions, and other POS capabilities.
• Integrate with payment providers such as Adyen and external services, ensuring secure and reliable communication between systems.
• Own backend solutions end to end, from technical design and implementation to testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
• Design resilient workflows that handle asynchronous events, retries, failures, and data consistency across distributed systems.
• Collaborate closely with Android engineers, QA, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver seamless merchant experiences.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions, balancing speed of delivery, maintainability, reliability, and evolving product needs.
• Use observability, feature flags, and experimentation to release changes safely and continuously improve the product.
• Contribute to technical discussions, RFCs, code reviews, and engineering practices across the team.

About you

• Good understanding of distributed systems, API design, databases, asynchronous processing, and reliable service integrations.
• Experience designing maintainable systems and making sound technical decisions with consideration for scalability and operational reliability.
• Product-minded, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, challenge assumptions, and balance engineering quality with business priorities.
• Comfortable taking ownership of complex problems, from understanding requirements to delivering and operating solutions in production.
• Collaborative, with clear communication skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, iterative environments, using data and feedback to improve products.
• Experience leveraging AI-driven engineering tools and workflows.
• Experience with any of the following domains is a big plus: Point of Sale (POS) systems, payment processing, financial transactions, or payment service provider integrations.

Workation policy

Better balance holidays with workdays by working remotely! Up to 90 days per year in the EU, of these, 21 days can be spent globally. For non-EU citizens, it's 21 days worldwide. This can be combined with time off for vacation or personal time.

Individual learning budget

Each year, you’ll be given a learning budget (starting at €3,000), and a total of up to 10 working days over a 2-year period to support your personal and professional development.
