Senior OT Network Engineer

Details

You will keep the network backbone behind Eneco's wind farms, solar parks, batteries, and heat installations running around the clock. The role covers the full lifecycle, from initial design and commissioning through live troubleshooting, in a mission-critical environment where reliability, availability, and safety are priorities.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate OT networks supporting wind farms, solar parks, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and heat installations.
• Work with both new sites (greenfield) and existing environments (brownfield), covering design, implementation, and commissioning.
• Establish secure and resilient site connectivity, including network segmentation and clear separation between IT and OT.
• Troubleshoot live network and connectivity issues, taking ownership from initial analysis through full resolution.
• Work across SCADA and PLC systems and OT network protocols including IEC 60870-5-104, OPC-UA, and Modbus.
• Apply security standards such as IEC 62443 and ISO 27001.
• Design and implement OT network solutions for production assets.
• Manage day-to-day availability and reliability of the OT network landscape.
• Own network-related incidents, including analysis, resolution, escalation, and communication until completion.
• Drive structural improvements, standards, and lifecycle management for the OT network.
• Join the 24/7 on-call rotation.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in a similar network engineering role.
• Bachelor's degree in computer engineering or a related field.
• Solid expertise in network segmentation, routing, switching, firewalls, and VPN technologies.
• Good understanding of security concepts and frameworks such as ISO 27001 and IEC 62443.
• Hands-on experience with OT environments, including SCADA and PLC systems.
• Familiarity with IEC 60870-5-104, OPC-UA, and Modbus.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, and integrators.
• Based in the Netherlands and fluent in English.
• Experience in renewable energy is an advantage but not required.

Work Environment

The role is part of Eneco's Operational Technology domain within the Tech organization and is based at the Rotterdam headquarters in a hybrid setup. The position involves collaboration with asset development, operations, architecture, security, external partners, and vendors.

Hybrid working consists of 40% at the office, 40% from home, and 20% flexibly. With manager approval, working abroad within approved countries is possible for up to 3 weeks per year, with a maximum of 2 consecutive weeks.
