Reddit is building AI-powered and agentic developer tools that improve how engineers write, test, review, ship, and operate software. This role focuses on designing and building platforms, services, systems, and workflows that improve developer experience and productivity across Reddit Engineering.

The role works across backend systems, infrastructure, developer tooling, and AI-powered workflows. You will collaborate with teams responsible for CI/CD, infrastructure, security, product systems, source control, deployment, and operations, while building scalable and reliable tools used by engineers across Reddit.

Responsibilities

Work cross-functionally across Reddit Engineering to understand developer needs, prototype solutions, and iterate based on feedback.
Design and build backend systems, APIs, infrastructure, and platform capabilities that improve developer workflows.
Build scalable and reliable systems for AI-powered developer workflows and core engineering systems.
Lead high-impact projects across Reddit’s developer tooling ecosystem by writing and reviewing code and design documents, aligning stakeholders, and making pragmatic technical tradeoffs.
Build tools and integrations connecting developer workflows with infrastructure, CI/CD, security, source control, deployment, and operational systems.
Design and implement maintainable APIs, services, libraries, and platforms for internal developer tooling at scale.
Improve tools, processes, and best practices while raising standards for reliability, usability, scalability, and maintainability.
Mentor engineers and help shape a roadmap based on developer needs.
Investigate, build, and integrate novel technologies where they solve meaningful problems for developers.

Requirements

5+ years of hands-on, post-graduate, non-internship professional software development experience, with backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering as a core strength.
3+ years of industry experience working on large-scale distributed systems and highly scalable, reliable services.
Strong proficiency with Go and significant production experience using Go.
Experience designing and implementing maintainable APIs using technologies such as GraphQL, REST, HTTP, or gRPC.
Experience building platforms, developer tools, libraries, frameworks, or internal systems used by other engineers.
Experience with infrastructure, Kubernetes, cloud providers, or systems supporting modern software development and delivery.
Hands-on experience using AI-powered developer tools and workflows, with sound judgment about improving developer productivity.
Experience leading large, ambiguous, high-impact projects requiring cross-team collaboration, technical judgment, stakeholder alignment, and ownership from problem definition through delivery.
A user-focused mindset emphasizing usability, reliability, scalability, and quality.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience mentoring engineers and helping teams make pragmatic tradeoffs.
A self-directed, action-oriented approach and comfort working in ambiguity.

Bonus Points

Experience in developer experience, developer productivity, internal platforms, or developer tooling.
Experience building tools or workflows for internal engineering users.
Experience building or extending CI/CD systems and partnering with build, test, and release teams.
Experience with GitHub Enterprise Server or large-scale source control platforms.
Experience with Python.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $190,800–$267,100 USD. Final offers depend on factors including skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses or credentials. The role may span more than one career level.
