Airbnb connects hosts and guests around the world. The Messaging & Notifications team tailors information so hosts can streamline operations and travelers receive timely, relevant information. This role focuses on architecting and implementing advanced machine learning solutions across Messaging and Notification, including recommendation engines, ranking systems, intent detection models, and integrating intelligence into existing platforms. A key part of the role is leading efforts to harness Large Language Models (LLMs) to create transformative AI experiences. You will lead ML, Data and Product engineers to drive ML applications and take initiatives from early concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Envision, champion, and support the development of novel ML systems, product integrations, and performance optimizations to solve real-world problems.
• Architect and implement advanced ML solutions, including recommendation engines, ranking systems, intent detection models, and LLM-based features.
• Lead efforts to integrate intelligence into existing platforms and build ML-powered products.
• Lead, mentor, challenge and grow collaborative software engineers and applied scientists across the organization.
• Raise the AI/ML skillset within the organization and provide coaching and mentoring.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of large-scale software systems.
• 2+ years of experience in a Principal or Senior Staff Engineer role with ownership responsibility over large-scale software systems.
• Background in the design and development of scalable AI and ML systems and services.
• Deep passion for building ML-powered products.
• Experience working with and leading applied scientists, ML and product engineers.
• Strong communication skills; proactive, curious, and a builder/implementer mindset.

Location & Work Arrangement

• This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager.
• You must live in a U.S. state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states are excluded).
• Offices: United States.

How We'll Take Care of You

• The actual base pay depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range for this role is listed below.
• This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

Pay Range

$244,000 — $305,000 USD
