Details

Anthropic is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Network Security team, which secures the company's networks across cloud providers and bare-metal AI data centers. The team owns ingress and egress controls, network segmentation, private connectivity between environments, encryption in transit, and the software used to deploy, enforce, and monitor these controls. The work protects model weights, customer data, and internal assets.

Responsibilities

  • Own the network security roadmap, including threat modeling from the management plane through Kubernetes and cloud interconnects.
  • Define and deliver default-deny ingress and egress, segmentation between research, training, and production, private connectivity, and mTLS/service identity across environments.
  • Ship secure-by-default primitives so new clusters, VPCs, and data center links inherit appropriate security boundaries.
  • Partner with networking, cluster, and data center teams during design to ensure topology, routing, and firewall decisions preserve security invariants.
  • Build visibility into traffic and boundary drift, including detection of exfiltration paths and automated remediation where safe.
  • Own network security evidence for security goals and compliance, demonstrating that required invariants hold.
  • Hire, develop, and retain senior security software engineers; manage career development and establish team practices as the organization scales.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of frontline management experience.
  • Low ego and high empathy, with experience building diverse teams and developing engineers into staff or lead roles.
  • Experience managing infrastructure or security engineering teams, including hiring, developing, and managing senior and staff engineers.
  • Experience owning a security or infrastructure domain end to end, including setting multi-year strategy, delivering cross-organizational initiatives, and communicating risks and tradeoffs to executives.
  • Experience scaling teams and systems through hypergrowth.
  • Hands-on network security engineering experience in cloud and/or on-premises environments, including VPC design, interconnects, private service connectivity, cloud firewall policy, egress control, physical segmentation, and out-of-band or management-plane security.
  • Experience with threat modeling and risk assessment for networked systems.
  • Experience securing Kubernetes networking at scale or working in high-assurance environments where controls must be evidenced.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or rebuilding hiring loops while maintaining hiring standards during rapid growth.
  • Exposure to large-scale distributed training and its networking requirements.
  • Experience solving networking problems with internal users, cloud account teams, and hardware or colocation vendors.
  • Experience taking infrastructure from initial implementation through production maturity and reliability.
  • Pragmatic, steady judgment and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with AI security and safety concepts.

Education And Logistics

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Relevant field of study demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
  • Anthropic currently expects staff to work from one of its offices at least 25% of the time under its location-based hybrid policy.
  • Anthropic explicitly sponsors visas for eligible roles and candidates and retains an immigration lawyer to assist with the process.

Benefits

Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space for collaboration.
